“The six-year-old girl who wanted to leave love letters to her parents”

When 6-year-old Elena Desserich was diagnosed with brain cancer, she began hiding hundreds of little love notes around the house for her parents to find after she was gone. She was given 135 days to live. She lived 255 days, passing away in 2007. After her death, Elena’s parents, Brooke and Keith, found hundreds of notes from Elena hidden around the house — in between CD cases, between bookshelves, in dresser drawers, in backpacks. “It just felt like a little hug from her, like she was telling us she was looking over us”. Elena’s parents, Brooke and Keith Desserich, later published these notes in a book called Notes Left Behind to fund a non-profit organization The Cure Starts Now dedicated to fighting pediatric brain cancer

I am really really happy to find this on Tumblr and even happier so many have seen/noted it.  This little girl died of the same cancer my niece had.  They all die from it, every. single. one. of them - within about a year, usually less.  Researchers believe that getting a handle on this one cancer could unlock all cancers. My sister and brother-in-law have started a Minnesota chapter of The Cure Starts Now and I met Elena’s dad last spring at their fundraiser.  He is a committed man who works full time raising money for this cause and has two other jobs.  I hope at least of few of the 19,000+ Tumblrers have bought the book or made a contribution.  It’s a highly worthy cause.

Santa Monica pier

Can anyone guess what lyric (or what song) ran through my head when I saw this?
Inthepresenttense or smallgood probably have the best shot at winning this.  Though, bluesky and jholla might not be far behind.

Hmm… I know what I thought of…Sunset at the shoreline, we are laughing, breaking up, Just like the waves Are you feeling, feeling, feeling like I’m, feeling Like I’m floating, floating, up above that big blue ocean Sand beneath our feet, big blue sky above our heads, No need to keep stressing from our everyday life on our minds We have got to leave all that behind

One of my favorite scenes from Safe Men. Why don’t more people know about this movie? It got panned pretty heavily when it was released, and sure, it’s not ever going to be mentioned in the same breath as The Bank Dick or Caddyshack, or even Anchor Man, but it’s funny. I think Safe Men got a raw deal. A raw deal!

Killer cast, too: Rockwell, Zahn, Giamatti, Ruffalo, Harvey Fierstein. Find this movie and watch it.

Yes! I loved this movie too!
